John McCain can’t talk economics and social issues at same time, barks “bigger tent”

Re. abortion:

“And as far as far as young women are concerned, I don’t think anybody like me–I can state my position on abortion, but to—other than that, leave the issue alone–when we are in the kind of economic situation and, frankly, national security situation we’re in,” McCain said.

Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace had asked McCain: “Does your party need to change especially in its outreach to [unmarried women, Hispanics, and young people]–on social issues like same-sex marriage, on immigration reform?

“I think we have to have a bigger tent. That’s no doubt about it,” said McCain. “And, obviously we have to do immigration reform. There is no doubt whatsoever that the demographics are not on our side, and we are going to have to give a much more positive agenda.”
